Caledon Nathan Hockley, often shortened to Cal, was an American industrialist and the heir to a Pittsburgh steel fortune. In 1912 he was a first-class passenger aboard the RMS Titanic. The ship struck an iceberg and sank a few days before the date of its intended arrival in New York City. Hockley survived the sinking by cheating his way onto a lifeboat, pretending a deserted child was his own. He was later driven to suicide after being bankrupted by the financial crash of 1929.
